William Floyd United Teachers (WFUT) is proud to announce the return of their annual 1,000 Coat Giveaway, an event, now in its third year, dedicated to keeping local families warm and supported this holiday season. The giveaway will be held on Saturday, November 15, in the William Floyd High School west gym beginning at 11 am until supplies run out.

This year’s giveaway will provide more than just coats – families are invited to pick up (while supplies last): winter coats, hats, gloves, Thanksgiving turkeys and sides, and enjoy “Santa’s Corner” with free small gifts and children’s books for the kids.

WFUT surpassed its goal of collecting more than 1,000 coats this year! The event is made possible through the kindness of teachers, staff, students, local residents, and business sponsors who have shown what true community spirit can achieve.

“Every year, this event reminds us of the heart and generosity that defines the William Floyd community,” said Kari Garfen, William Paca Middle School teacher and WFUT Local Action Committee Chairperson. “It’s incredible to see us all come together to make sure our neighbors are cared for and supported – not just with coats and food, but with kindness and dignity.”

“This event truly shows what’s possible when teachers and the community work hand in hand,” said Mike LaCarrubba, William Floyd High School teacher and building-level WFUT Vice President. “Our educators give so much of themselves every day in the classroom, and this partnership allows us to extend that care to beyond the school walls – ensuring our community feels supported and valued during the holiday season.” 

All members of the William Floyd community are invited to attend. Take home a warm coat, pick up Thanksgiving meal essentials, and share in the spirit of the season. Together, this winter will be a little brighter – and a little warmer for everyone.
