Each year, the William Floyd School District is privileged to recommend recipients for the annual SCOPE Education Services Awards. This year, due to the extreme circumstances surrounding the pandemic, the district requested that the entire school community be recognized. The William Floyd School District is pleased to announce this year’s SCOPE “Shining Stars” are: All Employees of the William Floyd School District, Aramark Food Services, First Student Transportation, Durham School Services, the Board of Education and the Families and Residents of the William Floyd School District.

“I would like to express my gratitude toward the entire William Floyd school community for helping us navigate through the most challenging school year in history,” said Kevin M. Coster, superintendent of schools, William Floyd School District. “Without the support and collaboration, we would not be where we are today.”

The William Floyd School District was the only district with each award recipient going to groups.

This year’s SCOPE Shining Star recipients are listed below in alphabetical order.

All Employees of the William Floyd School District
Nurses, Security, Clerical, District Office Staff Association, Maintenance/Custodial/Grounds, Teachers, Paraprofessionals and Teaching Assistants, Heads & Chiefs, Building Administrators, District Office Administrators and Non-Aligned Employees  have continued to consistently be there for our students and their families throughout this pandemic. This year was an all-around team effort to navigate through one of the most challenging school years in history and our employees from every unit have risen to the challenge. The district is grateful for the service and commitment of all of our employees. We look forward to a bright future ahead.

Aramark Food Services
The William Floyd School District selects Aramark Food Services, a great district partner, as a recipient of the Support Staff award. Aramark has been there to help provide meals to our community from the onset of the pandemic and every weekday and non-school holiday since. Aramark employees worked hard daily to prepare hundreds of thousands of meals for our students – whether through bus delivery or at our grab-and-go locations,  to ensure that no child went hungry. This service is vital in a high-needs community with more than 65% of students qualifying for free or reduced meals. Aramark continues to be a great partner during the most challenging school year in history.

Durham School Services
The William Floyd School District selects Durham School Services, a great district partner, as a recipient of the Support Staff award. Durham has been there throughout the pandemic to transport our students to and from school on a daily basis. We thank them for their valued partnership especially during the most challenging school year in history.

Families and Residents of the William Floyd School District
The William Floyd School District would like to recognize the parents, guardians, families, students and residents of the William Floyd School District community for their patience and partnership, as we, along with districts everywhere, strive to deliver a high-quality education, provide student meals and necessary support through the most challenging school year in history. Thank you for working with us as we continue to navigate this unprecedented health crisis and work toward a brighter future.

First Student Transportation
The William Floyd School District selects First Student Transportation, a great district partner, as a recipient of the Support Staff award. First Student has been there to help provide meals to our community from the onset of the pandemic and every weekday and non-school holiday since. Basically overnight, employees went from driving students to school, to driving meals to students. The drivers worked hard daily to deliver hundreds of thousands of meals for our community ensuring that no child went hungry. This service is vital in a high-needs community with more than 65% of students qualifying for free or reduced meals. First Student Transportation continues to be a great partner especially during the most challenging school year in history.

William Floyd Board of Education
The seven elected volunteer trustees – Robert Vecchio, April Coppola, Thomas Gross, Robert Taiani, Robert Guerriero, Lorraine Mentz and Angelo Cassarino – continue to faithfully serve the residents of the William Floyd School District through their volunteerism, advocacy, responsible stewardship and love of community. They have helped guide the district to new heights (90% graduation rate), introduced fiscally responsible and sound budgets, and have been instrumental in supporting the creation of numerous dynamic instructional programs, topnotch academics, science research, Career and Technical Education opportunities, brand new fields, auditoriums, facilities, an adaptable playground and much more, for our students and the community. Their steady governance has also helped the district navigate its way through 2020 and 2021 – years like no other. They are truly deserving of this award.
