In celebration of Thanksgiving, Jackie Sciacca’s and Nikki Strull’s first-grade classes at William Floyd Elementary School read the non-fiction picture book, Balloons Over Broadway, the story of Tony Sarg, the original puppeteer that created the first floats used in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The students learned about Mr. Sarg’s journey to becoming a puppeteer through his experiences as an engineer and building different contraptions, puppets and later balloon floats which turned into a magical parade that millions of people still enjoy today. The students then designed and created their own balloon floats!
