The William Floyd Board of Education recently held its annual reorganization meeting for the 2026-27 school year, in which re-elected trustee Angelo Cassarino and newly elected trustee Joseph Barone took the oath of office for the start of their new three-year terms.

The Board of Education also appointed the slate of officers for the 2026-27 school year, including: April Coppola, President, Board of Education; Angelo Cassarino, Vice President, Board of Education; Kevin Coster, Superintendent of Schools; Carolyn Visintin, District Clerk; Deborah Currao, District Treasurer; and Mary Sidaras, Deputy District Treasurer.
Additionally, the three newest ex-officio student Board of Education members took the oath of office for the 2026-27 school year. The inclusion of student board members began this past school year in accordance with a law requiring all school districts operating a high school to have at least one high school student serve as a non-voting member of their boards of education. This program got off to a great start at William Floyd, as the inaugural group of student board members exceeded expectations and provided the Board of Education with many valuable perspectives and insights throughout the year!
The Board of Education appointed the following students to serve as student board members for the 2026-27 school year: rising senior Erin Chen, rising junior Andrew Peralta Santos and rising senior Arihanna Smith.

The Board of Education also adopted its meeting dates for the 2026-2027 academic year. All meetings will be held in the William Floyd High School Jeananne Dawson Memorial Library, 240 Mastic Beach Road, Mastic Beach, with public session beginning at 7 pm (unless otherwise noted).
Board of Education meeting dates for the 2026-27 school year include: August 25 (6 pm public session); September 15; October 20; November 17; December 15; January 12; February 9 (Budget Advisory meeting at 6:30 pm/BOE meeting at 7 pm); March 16 (Budget Advisory meeting at 6:30 pm/BOE meeting at 7 pm); April 13 (Budget Advisory meeting at 6:30 pm/BOE meeting at 7 pm); May 11 (Budget Advisory meeting at 6:30 pm/BOE meeting at 7 pm); and June 15. The annual Budget Vote and Trustee Election will be held on May 18, 2027.
