William Floyd Elementary School fifth-grader/rising sixth grader Emily Palmer was named the William Floyd School District Artist of the Month for June! Emily is an incredibly talented student whose artwork exemplifies a level of skill and detail that is present in artists much older than she is. Her passion for art is evident in the fact that, on top of her excellent work in her art classes at school, she also continues to create art in a studio she has at home.

“Emily consistently stood out in art class by bringing a unique and imaginative perspective to every project she creates,” said Linda Lutzen, WFE art teacher. “Her ability to think outside of the box and complete her artwork in such a personal way serves as an inspiration to her peers and I.”

Emily loves to use a variety of different colors in her pieces and noted that her favorite mediums to work with are colored pencils and crayons. Earlier in the school year, she drew a still life piece that depicted art materials and a flute that was ultimately chosen to be featured on posters advertising WFE’s spring concert and art show. In addition to her excellence in art, Emily also likes to play the flute, which she earned SCMEA All-County honors for this school year. She also sang in the school chorus and in the Drama Club’s production of Beauty and the Beast Jr. as Mrs. Potts.
