William Floyd Middle School and William Paca Middle School eighth-grade students, under the direction of their school counselors, Allison Ravener, and Caroline Reed, respectively, recently visited - in separate trips - the award-winning Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at William Floyd High School for an up-close look at the opportunities that await them in high school!

Eighth graders participated in groups based on their CTE program of interest and were partnered with current CTE students serving as their mentors. Students received hands-on experience alongside their mentors, gaining a true appreciation of all aspects the program has to offer.

“I would love to be a part of the Medical Assisting program because there are many benefits for college and my future career goal within the medical field,” said William Floyd Middle School student Alexandria Shea. “I also love the friendships that are formed throughout the CTE program."

Fellow William Floyd Middle School eighth grader Mia Cartelami visited the Culinary Arts program, where she helped make brownies from scratch. "This program gave me motivation and purpose to continue to strive toward high grades and obtain important life skills such as cooking."

The William Floyd High School CTE program offers eight academy-style learning pathways that prepare students to be career and college ready and have the extra skills and know-how they can take with them throughout their lives. CTE Academy offerings include Automotive, Barbering, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Home Design & Carpentry (with electrical and plumbing), Medical Assisting, Marine & Motorsports, and Personal Training & Nutrition.
