William Floyd High School senior Jack Meyer has set a new record for most wins by a wrestler in school history! He achieved this milestone – 146 wins – at the Division I Dual Championships held at East Islip High School on January 21, breaking a 21-year-old mark of 145 wins previously held by John Barone. Since then, he recorded three more wins at Senior Night, setting a new school record with each win. He now sits at 149 wins overall and expects to continue adding to it with the upcoming postseason!

Meyer, a three-year captain and six-year varsity member, wrestling in the 138 lb. weight class, was named a pre-season top 100 wrestler in Suffolk County by Newsday. He notched his 100th win during his junior year, a rare feat for that grade level. He continues to dominate his opponents this season and helped lead his fellow Colonials to the League I championship, the program’s first in more than four decades.

“I have had the pleasure of coaching Jack for most of his life, starting with the ‘Floyd Boyz Wrestling Club’ (kids’ program) and all the way through varsity,” said Tony Mecca, the longtime coach of the boys’ varsity wrestling team. “I've seen him grow from a boy to a young man. We've had some special people come through this program but Jack ranks right at the top. He can achieve anything he sets his mind to. I believe the win record was in his sights when we brought him up in seventh grade. He is everything we want to represent our program.”

Jack has had a standout career as a wrestler at William Floyd over the past six years. In addition to being a three-year varsity captain, he is a two-time All-County student-athlete, a two-time Newsday top 100, holds the record for most wins, joined the Century Club during his junior year, is a five-time All-League honoree, a two-time league finalist and the Spartan Award winner as a junior for being the most outstanding wrestler in League I.

Jack is a multi-sport athlete, starring for the varsity soccer team and serving as varsity captain. On the pitch, he was a Newsday top 100 selection, a two-time All-League athlete, and a three-year starter. He also played football for the varsity Division I champions as a placekicker and punter.

In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Jack also excels academically and as a student-musician. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Tri-M Honor Society, Student Government, and the Yearbook Club. Jack is also a talented musician who plays trumpet as a member of the Brass Quintet. He also earned SCMEA (Suffolk County Music Educators Association) All-County honors four times and was selected as a NYSBDA (New York State Band Directors Association) All-State member once.
