William Floyd High School senior Andriana Perez was recently selected as the first-place winner in an essay contest presented by the Chi Rho Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. The essay, answering the question, “In a world powered by Artificial Intelligence, what does it mean to lead with integrity and purpose?” was selected as the best overall rated on development of the thesis, progression, readability, grammar, spelling and punctuation. For her efforts, Andriana received a $300 prize and has been invited to a ceremony at the Half Hollow Hills Community Library on December 20. She will now represent the Chi Rho Chapter in the 2nd District competition, where she will have the opportunity to win scholarships and potentially move on to the national competition!

Andriana is a member of the WFHS Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) and hopes to garner acceptance into one of the United States service academies after graduation. Andriana attended William Floyd Schools K-12 including Tangier Smith Elementary School and William Paca Middle School.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., is recognized as the first international fraternal organization founded at a historically black college and has more than 750 chapters internationally. The Chi Rho chapter, which represents Suffolk County, opened this scholarship opportunity to African American and Hispanic high school seniors from across the county.

Congratulations, Andriana, and best of luck in the 2nd District competition!
