WFHS senior Jackson Seifert plays the trombone at The Juilliard

William Floyd High School senior Jackson Seifert continues to make his mark in the music world with a second-consecutive selection to The Juilliard Pre-College program, attaining the Principal Trombone seat in The Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra and a host of other honors!

After a rigorous final solo performance last June, Jackson was invited back to perform for a second and final year in The Juilliard Pre-College program, a comprehensive conservatory-style music program for students who exhibit the talent, potential and ambition to pursue serious music study at the college level. Earning consecutive invitations to this prestigious program is a testament to Jackson’s talent. As a result of his audition, he had the opportunity to perform with Weston Sprott, dean and director of the Preparatory Division at The Juilliard School, co-founder of the Black Orchestral Network, and a trombonist in the Metropolitan Orchestra.

Additionally, last spring, Jackson auditioned for and received a spot at the prestigious Boston University Tanglewood Institute Summer Program last summer, was invited to participate in the Trombone Workshop and the Young Artists Wind Ensemble, and as an alternate for the Orchestra. At this premier and intensive program for serious and talented young musicians, Jackson spent two weeks learning from Matthew Wright of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, and Stephen Lange, the Second Trombone of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and a professor at the New England Conservatory.

Jackson’s hard work, talent and studious musicianship continues to pay off as he has earned All-State selections in four categories this year, as a result of a perfect score of 100 on each audition. Jackson earned a school record four All-State selections in the categories: Symphony Orchestra trombone, Instrumental Jazz tenor trombone, Instrumental Jazz bass trombone and as an alternate for the bass trombone. Jackson, along with seven of his peers, performed at the NYSSMA All-State Conference in Rochester from December 4-7. He was also accepted into the Suffolk County High School Jazz Ensemble, as well as the NYSCAME All-County Concert Band. He was also named the Principal Trombone in the Suffolk Principal Orchestra, which is part of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra.

Jackson also has been selected to perform in a solo in an upcoming Sound Symphony Orchestra at JFK Middle School in Port Jefferson Station. The Sound Symphony, founded in 1984, is a unique and exciting orchestra that presents concerts throughout the entire year, and performed by members of the community, for the community. The Symphony offers a series of outstanding programs of both classical and contemporary composers and seeks to encourage talented young musicians with their family-friendly concerts and solo competitions.

During his junior year, Jackson received several accolades including NYSCAME All-County honors, SCMEA All-County Jazz, NYSSMA All-State honors, and All-Eastern honors from the National Association for Music Education, one of the most prestigious honors that a high school musician can earn in the entire nation. He has won multiple awards and honors since eighth grade at William Paca Middle School.

Jackson has been touring colleges and taking lessons with amazing professors as he awaits the results of his pre-screening submissions, and then final auditions between January and March.

Congratulations, Jackson!
