William Floyd High School senior Drew Wiegand was recently selected as the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution “Excellence in American History” award! The Daughters of the American Revolution, a group dedicated to promoting historical preservation, local education and patriotism, presents this award to a student who demonstrates outstanding work in their American history classes. Members of the Patchogue-based Col. Josiah Smith Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution selected Drew for this award and presented her with a special certificate and pin for her efforts.
At William Floyd High School, Drew participates in many extracurricular activities, including the National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, Science Honor Society (where she serves as vice president) and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. As a student-athlete, she was a three-year varsity tennis player, earning All-County honors twice and placing third in her division. She also participated in the lacrosse and track programs and played both Unified bowling and Unified basketball. Drew has been an active member in student government and class council and sang with the Acabellas for three years. She also volunteered for six years with the Moriches Bay Project helping to keep our local waterways clean.
Drew has received several academic awards including the Principal’s Award (Top 10 in her class), the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, the New York State Comptroller Award, the High Achievement Award and the Honored Academic Achiever Award. She is an AP Scholar with Distinction and earned the Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish.
After graduation, Drew will be attending Endicott College where she plans on majoring in interior architecture with a minor in construction management
