The William Floyd High School “School to Work” class under the direction of Carmella Currao, recently collaborated with the Home Design & Carpentry Academy for a fun collaboration in which students from both programs worked together to build a craft – a blooming picture frame!
“It was an incredible experience watching carpentry students collaborate with and teach my students, building something from scratch,” said Mrs. Currao. “The experience was truly amazing for everyone involved.”
Special thanks to the Home Design & Carpentry Academy, under the direction of instructors Matthew Van Horne and Steven Rendino, and to Home Depot for donating the blooming picture frame craft projects!

The William Floyd Home Design & Carpentry Academy (CTE Carpentry) offers a two-year program that combines hands-on skill development and technical training providing students with a basic understanding of the competencies needed to perform as an entry level carpenter, carpenter’s apprentice, or carpenter’s helper. During year one, students learn the fundamentals of construction and carpentry. In year two, students continue to learn about building construction occupations as well as basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. Students must pass the industry assessment in order to receive this endorsement on their diploma.
