WFHS student flutist champion Becky Neikens holds a certificate in front of instruments painted on a wall

William Floyd High School junior Becky Neikens recently won first place in the annual Long Island Flute Club High School Flute competition! Flutists throughout Long Island auditioned for the competition, with Becky being one of only six finalists selected to perform in a live recital in front of a panel of judges. Her rendition of Sonata for Flute and Piano by Lowell Liebermann at the recital won her the Theodore I. Mordoff Memorial Grand Prize of $500, solidifying her place as one of the top high school level flutists on Long Island!

Becky is a very talented performer who has compiled an expansive list of musical accomplishments throughout her time at William Floyd. This includes being named to the NYSBDA All-State Honor Band three times, earning SCMEA All-County recognition twice and earning NYSSMA All-State and NYSCAME All-County honors for the first time this school year. Additionally, Becky was one of four William Floyd student-musicians who were chosen to receive the prestigious SCMEA Private Study Scholarship last school year.

Congratulations, Becky!
