The William Floyd High School record-setting 4 x 800 meter relay team of (l-r) Aaliyah Jordan, Destiny Samuels, Brianna Smith and Zariel Macchia recently broke a school record.

The William Floyd High School varsity girls’ winter track team under the leadership of head coach John Ryan has been busy outpacing their competition! The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Aaliyah Jordan, Destiny Samuels, Brianna Smith and Zariel Macchia broke a school record at the Ocean Breeze Holiday Festival finishing with a time of 9:56.40; and, at the same competition, Zariel Macchia recorded a No. 1 time in the nation running the two mile in 10:33.22!

With that performance, the 4 x 800 meter relay team qualified for the Millrose Games on January 11, which saw them finish second with a time of 9:46.23, another school record. This effort has now qualified them for the New Balance Nationals Indoor at the Armory in March. Congratulations and good luck the rest of the season!
