the WF varsity tennis team and Coach Dave Pia

The William Floyd High School girls’ varsity tennis team, under the leadership of two-time USTA Coach of the Year Dave Pia, are having themselves another great season! On Sunday, the Colonials recorded their 10th victory of the season! This big win came against previously unbeaten Westhampton, who were ranked as the top team in Suffolk County. The girls battled their way to a 4-3 victory, led by strong doubles play.

“With the match tied at three, the pressure was on the fourth doubles team of Nadia DaGama Paes and Tatiana Sanchez,” said Coach Pia. “They split the first two sets and had a match-deciding third to play. They stepped up in that final set to win their match and the match for William Floyd.”

The victory puts the Colonials in a three-way tie for first place in League IV with a 5-1 league record (10-4 overall). With the playoffs looming, the Colonials have two matches remaining this week – Tuesday, October 3 at Center Moriches @ 3:30 pm and Wednesday, October 4 at home against Southold @ 4 pm.

Congratulations, Colonials! Good luck the rest of the way!
