On Saturday, June 28, William Floyd High School held its 66th commencement ceremony to celebrate the approximately 800 students who completed the requirements for graduation and became William Floyd's latest alumni! Family and friends gathered to watch their loved ones walk across the stage and receive their high school diplomas. The event was also livestreamed for those who could not be in attendance (the video replay is linked here or below).
The ceremony kicked off with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Student Government president Olivia Phillips, followed by the Presentation of Colors by the William Floyd High School NJROTC under the leadership Senior Chief Andrew DiDonato, then capped off with a beautiful rendition of Francis Scott Key's "The Star Spangled Banner" by the graduating seniors of the William Floyd High School Chorus under the direction of Donia Rivera.
Commencement speakers included valedictorian Alice Chen and salutatorian Rachel Chen, along with Board of Education President April Coppola who recognized the students who have enlisted in the Armed Forces and will serve our nation after graduation. (Thank you for your upcoming service!) Superintendent of Schools Kevin M. Coster, William Floyd High School Principal Philip Scotto and Floyd Academy Principal John DeBenedetto also delivered remarks to mark this milestone occasion.
Special thanks to the Mastic Beach Fire Department for adorning a large American flag behind the stage!
