The Girls on the Run program is gaining momentum at William Floyd with chapters at William Floyd Elementary School and Moriches Elementary School helping inspire and build confidence in girls, while fostering care and compassion for themselves and others. The program, geared toward girls in grades three through eight, is based on positive youth development and promoting empowerment by teaching life skills through various lessons and running activities. During the season, teams meet after school twice per week for practice, and complete running activities based upon each lesson’s theme. Exercise together with dynamic lessons and discussions helps to build social and emotional skills and healthy habits for the rest of their lives. This past season culminated in a celebratory 5K run in early December held at Eisenhower Park in Westbury!
