varsity wrestling team group photo - team celebrates win

The William Floyd boys’ varsity wrestling team, led by head coach Tony Mecca, recently captured the title at the 39th Annual Kujan Brothers’ Memorial Tournament with numerous tremendous performances including two overall champions, four second-place finishes and a total of 15 student-athletes placing in the top six!

The Colonials’ two overall champions were Josiah Lors and Antonio Martin, along with finalists David Barrera, Brandon Caceres, Caleb Holmes and Jack Meyer. These student-athletes helped lead the way en route to their second Kujan Tournament title in the past three years, a dominant performance over top-ranked teams including Bellport, Smithtown East and Plainedge.

The Colonials are currently 8-2 and ranked among the top teams in Suffolk County. With five dual meets remaining and the league and county championships ahead, they look to continue making their mark on the 2025 season.

The Annual Kujan Brothers’ Memorial Wrestling Tournament is a storied tradition that features a full day of wrestling with competing programs from Long Island and sometimes beyond. It is held in honor of two former William Floyd wrestlers, Kevin and Steve Kujan, who tragically passed away in a motorcycle crash in 1984. This event, for the past 39 years, has brought the wrestling community together and helped to keep Kevin and Steve’s memory alive.
