Each year, Newsday names their top 100 boys’ basketball players ahead of the start of the winter season. In the 2024-25 edition of this list, Newsday recognized three William Floyd student-athletes, seniors Jermaine King, Dahmarion Moses and Jawuan Smith, as among Long Island’s top 100.
Jermaine King, a 5’ 9” point guard, is receiving this honor for the third year in a row. Jermaine is coming off a season in which he averaged 10.8 points and 4.6 assists per game while making 41 three pointers. He earned All-League, All-Conference and All-County honors during his junior season.
Dahmarion Moses, a 6’ 6” center, is receiving this honor for the first time in his career. Dahmarion averaged 8.3 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game last season and earned All-League distinction. In discussing Moses’s game with Newsday, head coach Will Slinkosky highlighted his athleticism and work above the rim.
Jawuan Smith, a 6’ 5” forward, is receiving this honor for the second year in a row. He averaged a double-double per game last season, putting up 14.9 points and 11.9 rebounds each contest. Coach Slinkosky praised Smith’s mid-range jumper and effort as a rim protector in a conversation with Newsday, noting his “ability to high-point the ball on rebounds.” During his tremendous 2023-24 season, Smith was named an All-League, All-Conference and All-County player in addition to making Newsday’s 2024 All-Long Island First Team.
With the help of these three players and the rest of the hungry squad, the Colonials will be looking to continue the program’s recent run of success including two consecutive league titles, an undefeated regular season last year and a county championship game appearance.
The Colonials are already off to a fast start at 2-0 with two non-league wins over Smithtown East and Bellport. After a tournament this weekend at Bay Shore High School, the Colonials will host Walt Whitman in their first home game of the year on Tuesday, December 10 at 4:30 pm. Congratulations and best of luck to Jermaine, Dahmarion, Jawuan and the Colonials this season!
