Three William Floyd Elementary School students have qualified to compete in the Brookhaven National Laboratory Elementary Science Fair on Saturday, June 7! These three promising young student-scientists will compete against their peers from across Suffolk County to determine the most innovative project that demonstrates the scientific method/engineering design process.
Charlotte Saterfield, a first-grade student in Mrs. Cherouvis’s class, explored the phenomenon of “Disappearing Candy,” which tested various types of candy and whether or not they will dissolve in liquid.
Dorothy Connolly, a fourth grader in Mrs. Haakonson’s class presented her research titled, “Insulation Olympics,” which tested various materials and how effective they are at insulating the temperature of water for the longest period of time.
Josiah Morse, a fifth-grade student in Mrs. DaEira-Loccisano and Mrs. Meyer’s class, researched whether or not he could use a mirror to improve the output of a solar panel on a cloudy day in a project titled “Enhancing a Solar Panel Using a Mirror.”
Congratulations to the students and good luck at the science fair on June 7!
