Six William Floyd High School Business Academy students were instrumental in assisting the New York Islanders and their fans in the NHL’s “Hockey Fights Cancer Night,” on November 12, as they worked hard taping more than 17,000 “I Stand Up For” placards to the back of each seat in UBS Arena. During a first period TV timeout, fans had the opportunity to hold up their signs declaring who they stand up for in the battle against cancer.

The Islanders, in collaboration with the Stand Up to Cancer Foundation and Northwell Heath, used this game to raise awareness and money for cancer research. In addition to pitching in for a great cause, the student volunteers watched the Islanders defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 in overtime.
