Six William Floyd student-athletes were recently named to Newsday’s top player lists for the 2025 varsity spring sports season! The Colonials have representatives from the boys’ track, girls’ track, girls’ lacrosse, boys’ lacrosse and baseball teams! Congratulations to all of the Colonials who received this honor!

Jack Molini: Varsity Baseball (Head Coach - Keith Kobasiuk)
William Floyd High School senior Jack Molini was named a top-100 baseball player by Newsday. Jack is a dual-threat for the Colonials, both as a first baseman and a starting pitcher.

In describing Jack, Newsday highlighted his standout 2024 season in which he hit for a .455 average and had 28 RBIs as a batter and compiled a 1.90 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 54 1/3 innings as a pitcher. His efforts helped lead the Colonials to a playoff berth with a 15-5 overall record (14-4 League I) and earned Jack a spot on the Newsday All-Long Island Second Team!

Jack has also been a member of the varsity football team as a quarterback, receiver and defensive end. He earned All-Division First Team honors for his efforts this past season. After graduation, Jack will have the opportunity to pitch at the Division I collegiate level with Le Moyne College.

Emma DiMaio: Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse (Head Coach - Nicole Alesi)
William Floyd High School junior Emma DiMaio was named a top-100 girls’ lacrosse player by Newsday.  Emma is an attacker for the Colonials girls’ lacrosse team and is one of their most prolific scorers.

She’s coming off of a 2024 season in which she scored 37 goals (second most on the team), 45 assists (first on team, third most in Suffolk County and Long Island) and 82 total points (second most on the team, sixth most in Suffolk County). Her performance helped lead the Colonials to their fourth consecutive playoff berth with a 12-4 overall record (12-2 League I) and a playoff victory in the quarterfinal round. In describing Emma, Newsday wrote she’s, “an excellent feeder with great field vision and understanding of the game.”

Emma also serves as a captain on the varsity girls’ soccer team, where she plays midfield. She earned All-County recognition for her efforts on the soccer team this past season. After her graduation in 2026, Emma will continue her lacrosse career at the collegiate level for Stony Brook University.

Marc Pluchino: Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse (Head Coach - Desmond Megna)
William Floyd High School junior Marc Pluchino was named a top-100 boys’ lacrosse player by Newsday. Marc is a midfielder for the Colonials boys’ lacrosse team who has been playing varsity since the eighth grade.

Head coach Desmond Megna was highly complementary of Marc in an interview with Newsday, praising his “versatility” and ability to score “big goals in big games” while also highlighting him as “the most electric (Class of) 2026 midfielder in Suffolk.” Marc finished last season with 22 goals and 23 assists, a performance that earned him All-Division honors for the second consecutive season. He’ll be looking to maintain his high level of success this season, as he and the Colonials try to secure a playoff berth.

Zariel Macchia: Varsity Girls’ Track (Head Coach - John Ryan)
William Floyd High School senior Zariel Macchia was named a top-50 girls’ track runner by Newsday. Zariel has received this honor many times throughout her illustrious high school career, which will be coming to a close with this upcoming spring season.

In describing Zariel, Newsday referred to her as “one of the greatest athletes in state history” and recognized her seventh individual state championship win during the winter season, in which she ran a national-best time of 9:21.73 in the 3,000-meter run. They also acknowledged her as the state’s top runner in the 1,500-meter run during the winter, highlighting her career and Long Island-best time of 4:16.23 in the event.

As the spring season gets underway, Zariel will be working toward helping lead the girls’ track team to success and adding to her already lofty list of championships and accolades. After graduation, Zariel will continue her track career at the collegiate level for BYU.

Divine Bennett: Varsity Boys’ Track (Head Coach - Ed Noll)
William Floyd High School junior Divine Bennett was named a top-50 boys’ track runner by Newsday. Divine is featured in the triple jump and is coming off of a winter season in which he excelled in that event.

In describing Divine, Newsday wrote, “Bennett flew 44 feet, 8 inches in the triple jump in January to claim the No. 13 ranking in the state. That mark is second on Long Island among spring returners.” Divine also had a top-10 finish in the triple jump at the Suffolk County Championships and a top-five finish at the Long Island Elite Meet this past winter. He’ll be looking to build upon that level of success heading into the new spring season.

Joshua Jordan: Varsity Boys’ Track (Head Coach - Ed Noll)
William Floyd High School senior Joshua Jordan was also named a top-50 boys’ track runner by Newsday. In describing Joshua, Newsday wrote, “Jordan’s personal best of 10.72 in the 100 [meter dash] is fourth amongst state returners.”

Joshua has had a great run as a Colonial, earning All-County honors, All-League honors on multiple occasions and two county championships. Additionally, he’s been to the state championship meet twice, earning a podium finish for his performance in the 55-meter dash at last year’s winter state championship meet.

Joshua has also been a member of the varsity football team as a receiver and safety. He earned All-Division First Team honors for his efforts this past season.
