student in cub scout uniform with donated supplies for SBU Children's Hospital

Moriches Elementary School fourth grader Caleb Gerry recently spearheaded a project along with fellow members of Center Moriches Cub Scout Pack 23, to help support children currently residing at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. Caleb and members of his pack decided that they would help create and collect homemade cards with positive messages, along with collecting donations of crayons, coloring books, and bubbles, which also help with breathing exercises for the children.

During the month of April, Caleb made morning announcements and set up collection bins in the school lobby to help promote the effort.

“It was such a beautiful project and we had so many donations,” said Deirdre Redding, principal, Moriches Elementary School. “Caleb did a beautiful job organizing his project and sharing it with his classmates and our community to help those less fortunate. I’m so proud of him.”

Special thanks to the Moriches elementary community members that donated to the coloring book, crayons, and bubbles collection drive. All items have been donated to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital to benefit the children.
