As you may have heard, New York City schools announced today (November 18) that they will transition to remote learning. Many may begin to wonder what this news will mean for William Floyd and other Long Island districts. Our district does not fall under the jurisdiction of New York City schools, so Long Island schools operate under different guidelines.

So what are the William Floyd School District’s plans moving forward?

The William Floyd School District is planning to stay open for in-person learning as long as it’s safe and possible. We are watching the infection rates closely and will abide by the regulations and directives set forth by Governor Cuomo and/or County Executive Bellone and the Suffolk County Department of Health. As Mr. Bellone and representatives from the Suffolk County Department of Health have stated, the spread of COVID-19 is not happening within schools, but rather it seems to be taking place within the community. As a district, we continue to do all that we can to stay vigilant and follow the proper protocols; new desk shields are now in place for our in-person students while our custodial staff continues to do a great job cleaning our buildings day in and day out. While we continue to remain vigilant in our schools with in-person learning, we are simultaneously preparing for virtual learning in the event that we are required to quickly transition to all-virtual learning. Please continue to check the district website for regular updates and follow all the recommended protocols including wearing a mask, social distancing and washing your hands frequently.
