William Floyd High School and Floyd Academy students should be prepared for longer wait times on Monday morning as the high school will continue and increase its practice of scanning random students with metal detector wands. The district has also requested a police presence at arrival and throughout the day tomorrow.
Additionally, the Board of Education has scheduled an emergency executive session meeting (not open to the public) for Monday to discuss Friday’s incident and the response including the installation of metal detectors and other increased security measures. We will keep the community updated with any new information as a result of that meeting.

This afternoon just prior to high school dismissal, a high school student was brought to an administrator’s office for possible vaping. When the student was searched with a metal detecting wand, it was discovered that the student was in possession of a handgun. The handgun was confiscated and the police were immediately notified. This has been turned over to law enforcement who are continuing their investigation. The student will be dealt with through the criminal justice system. In addition to any criminal charges, the student will also be subject to severe consequences according to the school district code of conduct.
