The William Floyd Colonials girls’ varsity basketball team, led by head coach Rich Sinclair, qualified for the Class AAA Suffolk County Championship game with a 56-45 win over Ward Melville in the semifinal round of the Section XI Class AAA playoffs on Saturday afternoon, February 28! William Floyd’s defense played a strong first half, holding the Ward Melville offense to under 10 points in each of the first and second quarters. In a close game, the Colonials received a major spark to end the first half as Milania Farrow, who drained the buzzer-beating game winner over Huntington in the quarterfinal round, struck again with another buzzer-beating three pointer to give the Colonials a 23-14 halftime lead.

The Colonials then started the third quarter on an incredible hot stretch, going up by as many as 21 points while holding their opposition to just five points to start the quarter. Ward Melville finished the quarter on a run of their own to cut into Floyd’s lead, but it wasn’t enough. The Colonials worked hard to stave off any attempt at a comeback in the fourth quarter and emerged victorious.

Milania Farrow led the team with 16 points while Savannah Pantry put up 12 points, four rebounds, two steals and a block in the win. Chloe Campbell was also instrumental in the victory, putting up a team-high 10 rebounds while also posting nine points, four blocks and a steal.

Girls' Varsity Colonials Advance to Semifinals in Thrilling Win

The William Floyd girls’ varsity basketball team, led by head coach Rich Sinclair, defeated Huntington in a thrilling quarterfinal playoff matchup by a 55-51 final score! Things got off to a tough start as Huntington ended the first quarter with a 10-4 lead. However, the Colonials held it together and outscored Huntington 16-10 in the second quarter to tie the game at 20 heading into halftime.

This back-and-forth affair continued into the second half, with Floyd taking their first lead of the game and ending the third quarter up 35-32. In the fourth, the Colonials had a strong stretch of defensive play against their opposition and went up by as many as 13 points in the quarter. However, a late flurry of Huntington three pointers suddenly made it a one possession game yet again.

With just three seconds left to go, Huntington tied the game at 51 with a pair of made free throws. That would be as close as they would get to completing the comeback, as on the ensuing Floyd possession sophomore Milania Farrow called game and drilled a deep three-pointer to secure the eventual 55-51 win!

The Colonials now advance to the semifinal round of the Section XI Class AAA tournament, where they’ll either host No. 3 Ward Melville or No. 6 Sachem East next Friday, February 27. More details regarding the semifinal matchup are soon to come.

Milania Farrow played a fantastic game for the Colonials, posting a team-high total of 24 points in addition to her game-winning three! Junior Savannah Pantry and freshman Taleah Coppola also had strong performances, scoring 11 points each.

Congratulations to all of the Colonials student-athletes and coaches on the win!

The girls’ varsity team, led by head coach Rich Sinclair, finished with a 16-4 overall record and a 13-3 League I record this season. Like the boys’ team, they made William Floyd history as their now five-year playoff streak is the longest in program history by a two-year margin! The Colonials flourished in large part due to their influx of highly talented, young players and secured the No. 2 overall seed in the Class AAA field, guaranteeing that their road to the Suffolk County Championship game runs through Mastic Beach. They’re seeking to qualify for the Suffolk County Championship game for the first time in program history as a Class AAA team. They will host No. 7 Huntington this Friday, February 20 at 12 pm in the William Floyd High School west gym (more information below).

Their leading scorer was junior Savannah Pantry, who earned Newsday top 100 honors for the 2025-26 season and averaged a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds per game while also finishing second on the team in blocks. Second in scoring was Taleah Coppola, a freshman who is already on her second year playing varsity after starting as an eighth grader last year. She averaged 11 points per game and was also the team leader in assists and steals. The lineup was further bolstered by sophomore Milania Farrow, who averaged 11 points per game, and junior Chloe Campbell, a multiple time Newsday top 100 selection who was one of the team’s top rebounders and shot blockers.

Additionally, the Colonials got significant contributions from first-year varsity player Gabrielle Bell Eleazer, who is just a seventh grader. She is averaged 8 points per game and was highlighted by Newsday earlier this season for her standout defensive effort that helped lead the Colonials to an overtime win against Ward Melville.

The Colonials’ roster also includes: seniors Jana Aly, Helen Lin and Vinte’ya Rountree; juniors London Barnes, Jewlianna Brown, Rosie Micucci, Jayla Thomas and Caiden Widecki; and freshmen Gizelle Edwards and J.J. Stewart. The team’s assistant coaches are Robert Hodgson and Nicholas Thomas.

The girls’ team earned the No. 2 overall seed and will host No. 7 Huntington this Friday, February 20 at 12 pm in the William Floyd High School west gym. This will be the Colonials’ first time playing against Huntington this season.

Please note that Section XI charges an admission fee for the playoffs - $9.40 per ticket ($8 plus $1.40 admission fee). Please follow this link or scan the QR code to purchase. QR codes will also be available at the gate to scan for ticket purchase. Section XI will not be accepting cash or check. Children 12 and under are free.

In addition to an excellence season from the varsity team, the junior varsity team went a perfect 16-0 in League I play and compiled an 18-1 overall record, good for the most overall wins in program history! The junior varsity Colonials are led by head coach Max Campbell, who was named the League I Junior Varsity Coach of the Year, and assistant coach Matt Martins. The roster includes: sophomores Ke’nyah Carter, Aicha Diallo, Khloe DiMaio, Rachel Hall, Diondra Hooten, Olivia Lewis and Farryn Marchese, freshmen Aliah Clark, April Handa, Riley Meyer, Audriana Smith and Gianna Thompson and middle school student-athletes Naomi Carter and Ariana Sileo.
