Eighth grade art students from both William Floyd Middle School and William Paca Middle School recently visited the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx, to see Van Gogh’s Flowers, an exhibit featuring botanical displays and large-scale pieces of art that showcased the beauty of the flowers that served as an inspiration for one of the world’s most revered artists, Vincent Van Gogh.

The students were fully immersed in the beauty of the exhibit, taking time to document and make sketches of some of their favorite pieces. Many of the students were especially moved by monumental sculptural sunflowers adorning a lawn, which are designed to elicit feelings of peace and joy. This trip provided students an excellent opportunity to observe the work of various professional artists and learn more about the life and inspirations of one of the most iconic artists in the world.

“This trip gave students a view of Vincent Van Gogh’s unforgettable world of art and nature in real time,” said Timothy Kosta, art teacher, William Floyd Middle School.

Students from Timothy Kosta and Stephanie Laughlin-Taisler’s classes at William Floyd Middle School participated along with students from Jillian Santoro and Marco Antenucci’s classes at William Paca Middle School. This experience is sure to inspire student-artists to create their own masterpieces!
