Eight William Floyd student-athletes were included in Newsday’s top player lists for the 2026 spring season! The Colonials have representatives from girls' lacrosse, boys' lacrosse, flag football, boys' tennis and boys' outdoor track and field! They join an expansive list of student-athletes who have earned the same honor in the fall and winter seasons. Congratulations to the student-athletes!


Emma DiMaio: Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse (Head Coach: Nicole Alesi)
Senior attacker Emma DiMaio has been named a top 100 girls’ varsity lacrosse player for a second consecutive year! In describing Emma, Newsday detailed her 2025 season, in which she amassed 38 goals and 42 assists, in addition to highlighting her importance to the offense, great field vision and overall understanding of the game. Emma is a repeat All-County honoree who has been a major contributor to the Colonials' five-season playoff streak. She also serves as a team captain on the girls’ varsity soccer team, where she has also earned All-County honors.

Additionally, she was one of William Floyd High School’s Suffolk Zone High School Leadership Award winners for 2026, an award which is given out to students who excel in academics and athletics. After high school, Emma will be continuing her lacrosse career at Stony Brook University!


Ava Tiedemann: Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse (Head Coach: Nicole Alesi)
Senior midfielder Ava Tiedemann has been named a top 100 girls’ varsity lacrosse player for the first time! Newsday referred to Ava as an aggressive midfielder who can be a major asset all over the field, noting her excellent speed and stick skills and ability to read a pass exceptionally well and pick off a ball at any time. She played a crucial role in leading the Colonials to a 10-4 Division I record and a playoff berth last season, as she recorded 57 draw controls, 42 ground balls and 41 goals.

Ava is a repeat All-County honoree who has participated in numerous sports at the varsity level, including basketball, field hockey and soccer. After high school, Ava will be continuing her lacrosse career at Long Island University!


PJ Gilhauley: Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse (Head Coach: Desmond Megna)
Senior midfielder PJ Gilhauley has been named a top 100 boys’ varsity lacrosse player for the first time! PJ is coming off a 34 goal, 14 assist season and was highlighted by Coach Megna as “a physical dodger.” His efforts during the 2025 season played an important role in helping the Colonials clinch their first playoff berth since 2022!

PJ has also been a contributor for the varsity bowling team and the varsity football team, two of the district’s most perennially successful athletic programs. After high school, PJ will be continuing his lacrosse career at SUNY Cortland!


Marc Pluchino: Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse (Head Coach: Desmond Megna)
Senior midfielder Marc Pluchino has been named a top 100 boys’ varsity lacrosse player for the second consecutive year! Coach Megna described Mark as one of the best pure shooters in the county and made note of his ability to shoot with both hands on the run. He had a prolific scoring year in 2025, recording 46 goals and 15 assists. This performance helped lead the Colonials to a 10-6 overall record and a playoff berth last season.  

Marc has been playing varsity lacrosse since the eighth grade and has earned All-Division honors multiple times throughout his career. 


Savannah Pantry: Varsity Flag Football (Head Coach: Ron Krawczyk)
Junior wide receiver/defensive back Savannah Pantry was named a top 50 varsity flag football player for the first time in this sport! In describing Savannah, Newsday highlighted her 2025 season in which she accumulated 58 receptions, 792 yards and 14 touchdowns as a receiver in addition to 60 flag pulls and eight interceptions as a defensive back. Additionally, Savannah recorded an interception and scored what would go down as the game-winning touchdown in the program’s first-ever playoff win last season!

Although this is her first time being selected for flag football, Savannah is no stranger to the Newsday top player list, as she was previously named a top 100 girls’ varsity basketball player this past winter. She also earned All-County honors for her efforts on the basketball court. 


Vinte’ya Rountree: Varsity Flag Football (Head Coach: Ron Krawczyk)
Senior running back/wide receiver/linebacker Vinte’ya Rountree was named a top 50 varsity flag football player for the first time in her career! Newsday highlighted Vinte’ya’s incredible athleticism, noting that she “flies all over the field.” In her 2025 season, Vinte’ya recorded 12 total touchdowns to go along with 501 receiving yards and 1,013 rushing yards on offense while also recording 94 flag pulls and two interceptions returned for touchdowns on defense.

Vinte’ya’s versatility and playmaking ability helped the Colonials achieve a 10-4-2 record last season in addition to the program’s first-ever playoff win, a game in which she finished with nine flag pulls. She was also a major contributor to the girls’ basketball team and their extended playoff run this past winter.


Vidal Macchia: Boys’ Varsity Tennis (Head Coach: Michael Clauberg)
Sophomore Vidal Macchia has been named a top 25 boys’ varsity tennis player for the first time in his career! Newsday took note of Vidal’s 17-5 singles record in 2025, which placed him sixth overall in Suffolk County. Additionally, he earned the No. 2 seed in last year’s Divisional Championship tournament and played all the way to the championship game!

Vidal’s contributions on the court earned him All-County honors and helped lead the Colonials to a fourth consecutive playoff berth by way of a 10-5 overall record. Vidal is also a highly-talented track athlete who consistently earns podium positions in his slate of meets and competitions, although he is running unaffiliated during the spring season.

Zavier Jenkins: Boys’ Track & Field (Head Coach: Ed Noll)
Junior track runner Zavier Jenkins has been named a top 50 boys’ track & field athlete for the first time in this event! Newsday highlighted his time of 49.36 in the 400-meter, which ranks second on Long Island, and noted that he is continuing to improve, citing his time of 34.99 in the 300-meter at the indoor state championship meet as evidence. Zavier is the reigning county champion in the spring 400-meter dash and a member of the 4x400 relay team that earned a silver medal at the county championships last spring.

He's coming off a winter season in which he earned All-County honors and was named a top 50 indoor track runner by Newsday, making this his second consecutive season being featured on a top player list.
