Below is information on Chromebooks, Canvas, Google Classroom, the technology help desk and the Parent Portal, that parents and students should find useful as we prepare to start the school year on Tuesday, September 8.
The district has received more than 1,400 requests for Chromebooks and is in the process of sorting the requests and preparing the devices for use. As stated in previous updates, at this point we are limiting Chromebooks to one per family/household at this time. Please note that those who have not returned a previously borrowed Chromebook will NOT be eligible for another. There are still more than
750 Chromebooks that have still not been returned from last school year (Update as of 9/18 - 460 not returned yet) – families are urged to return them as soon as possible so they can be prepared and loaned out to those who need them. Eligible families will receive direct notification in the coming days on whether they will receive a device at this time. Distribution will begin during the week of September 8. Click here for a link to the wait list.
You can access the Parent Portal on the William Floyd School District web page by clicking on the Parent Portal link located in the green tool bar at the top of the page or by clicking here. It also available for smartphone download on the App Store or on Google Play (Campus Parent)
For first time users, please go the Parents & Community tab located on the district homepage; there you will find detailed instructions on how to sign up for the Parent Portal (click here to access it directly). It also contains video guides to assist you with logging on, using and navigating the site.
If you have any issues with the Parent Portal, please call the Parent Support hotline at (631) 874-1245 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
At the elementary level, Google Classroom is the platform that will be used. Teachers will be reaching out directly to parents to ensure that they know how to log in and to provide the scheduled time for the daily block.
At the secondary level, the district is using the Canvas learning management system for grades 6-12. Canvas provides a simple-to-use virtual learning environment which can be used by teachers, students and parents for communication, assignments, discussions, grades and much more.
Student log-in information (username and password), will be the same as last year. Typically, your username is first name and last name (no space) @wfsd.k12.ny.us (example: email@example.com). Your password will still be the same as last year (unless you changed it). Password resets will be handled by the technology help desk beginning on Tuesday, September 8 (please see below).
If you are an incoming sixth grader and did not use Canvas last year, your log-in information should be the same used for Google Classroom in fifth grade. If you are still having trouble, please reach out to the help desk beginning on September 8 (please see below).
Those who are new to the district, should also reach out to the help desk for a password (please see below).
Please note that teachers are currently preparing their courses on Canvas, so nothing will be available for students or parents to view until the first day of school on Tuesday, September 8.

Please note that The technology help desk for students and parents will open on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 8 at 7 am. Techs will be available to assist with password resets and for those having trouble logging in on district Chromebooks. The hours to begin Stage 1 of re-opening are 7 am to 4 pm on weekdays when school is in session. The help desk number is (631) 874-1733.
