The transformative capital project approved by voters in October 2017 is well underway with projects in various stages all across the district. Some of the work is visible to the community such as the new windows at William Floyd Elementary School, the new adaptive playground and the athletic field work, while other initiatives are happening behind the scenes such as the high school auditorium and the district-wide telephone upgrade to a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) system. The new VoIP system, transmitted over a digital network, will enable for more call volume at once among other benefits.

New Centrally-Located Adaptive Playground
The new fully-adaptive centrally-located playground near Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School is nearing completion. This playground will be accessible to students with special needs and serve as a resource for the entire community. It also complements the Town of Brookhaven’s fully-adaptive playground at the Moriches Athletic Complex providing an accessible playground on both the eastern and western ends of the school district. The adaptive playground is scheduled to be ready in early September. 

William Floyd High School Auditorium
The William Floyd High School auditorium is experiencing a make-over and when complete will feature new lighting, seating, floors, sound and media systems, acoustic panels, as well as stage and floor refinishing, providing our students and community with the state-of-the-art facilities that they deserve. The high school auditorium is scheduled to be ready for use by early October with acoustical paneling as the final additions installed in late October/early November. William Floyd Middle School and William Paca Middle School are also scheduled for upgrades during the next phase of the project. 

Reconstruction of Original Sports Field
The original track and field behind Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School is undergoing reconstruction into a larger field, which will serve as a multi-sport area, with a new synthetic turf, a new scoreboard and a new six-lane rubberized track to fit around the larger field. The original track and field is scheduled to be completed by late September/early October, weather permitting. 

Other projects currently underway or scheduled to begin in the near future include roof work at William Floyd Elementary School, Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School, Moriches Elementary School and John S. Hobart Elementary School. New fire alarm systems at William Floyd High School, Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School and John S. Hobart Elementary School, as well as circuit breaker panels, clock systems, and other projects that are important to the infrastructure of schools across the district. Projects still in various stages of the design/approval process include air conditioning at Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary, John S. Hobart Elementary and William Floyd Elementary schools, HVAC and ventilation systems, additional roof work, middle school auditoriums, reconstruction of the main sports field (Lincoln Avenue) with synthetic turf, a new track and a pre-fabricated press box, two new synthetic turf infields on the baseball/softball fields, a new backstop, new foul poles and much more.
