Throughout the school year, William Floyd High School students from Mrs. Lauren Heuer’s School to Work class have been participating in a buddy program with students from Mr. Josh Young’s class at John S. Hobart Elementary School!

The high school students visit the Hobart students on a monthly basis to collaborate on various projects and activities that help both groups of students form new friendships with one another. These collaborations included a snowmaking science experiment led by the high schoolers in January and a celebration of the 100th day of school in February, which featured a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Zelin’s beloved pet therapy dog Kopa! For March’s activity, the students worked together to create their very own St. Patrick’s Day-themed sun catchers!

The Buddy program provides the high school students with an opportunity to practice their leadership skills and for all of the students to develop and use their communication and socialization skills. Mrs. Heuer expressed a great deal of pride in the leadership qualities her students have demonstrated through this program and much delight in getting to witness the bond they’ve formed with Mr. Young’s students. Every student who participates in this program walks away with a great educational experience and a smile on their face!
