Two-for-two! Two games, two days, same result - a trip to the Suffolk County Championship games for both the boys' and girls' varsity basketball teams! It has been a great two days for the William Floyd Colonials!

On Friday afternoon, the boys' varsity Colonials defeated Walt Whitman 73-66 in a semifinal playoff match-up with a trip to the county title game on the line! With this victory, the Colonials will now face Bay Shore in the AAA Large School Championship on Saturday, March 7 at 5 pm at Stony Brook University!

Then, the girls' varsity Colonials, had some semifinal winning to do of their own! They defeated Ward Melville 56-45 in the semifinals! With this victory, the Colonials will battle Walt Whitman in the AAA Large School Championship on Friday, March 6 at 8 pm at Stony Brook University!

The William Floyd Colonials girls’ varsity basketball team, led by head coach Rich Sinclair, qualified for the Class AAA Suffolk County Championship game with a 56-45 win over Ward Melville in the semifinal round of the Section XI Class AAA playoffs on Saturday afternoon, February 28!

The No. 2 Colonials will now be playing in the Suffolk County Championship game for the first time in program history! This adds to the team’s already historic feat of qualifying for the playoffs in four consecutive seasons, a benchmark that had never previously been achieved. The Colonials will now face No. 1 Walt Whitman on Friday, March 6 at 8 pm at Stony Brook University for a chance to bring home the title. Tickets cost $9.40 each (fees included) and can be purchased online in advance here. Children 12 and under are free. There will be QR codes available at the gate for purchase.

The No. 1 William Floyd Colonials boys’ varsity basketball team, led by head coach Will Slinkosky, has advanced to the Class AAA Suffolk County Championship game with a 73-66 victory over Walt Whitman in the semifinal round of the Section XI Class AAA playoffs on Friday evening, February 27! The first half was a tightly-contested affair, with Floyd and Whitman playing to a 26-26 tie going into halftime. In the third quarter, the Colonials took control over the game by going on a 19-2 run and outscoring their opposition 27-11 overall. Up 16 points to start the fourth, Floyd faced one last push from Whitman who managed to cut their lead down to single digits with less than a minute remaining. Despite the late push by Whitman, the Colonials continued to play tough and held on for the 73-66 win!

The Suffolk County Championship game will take place on Saturday, March 7 at 5 pm at Stony Brook University. Tickets cost $9.40 each (fees included) and can be purchased online in advance here. Children 12 and under are free. There will be QR codes available at the gate for purchase.

Both teams will host semifinal playoff games this Friday and Saturday, February 27 and 28, respectively, with an opportunity to advance to the Suffolk County Championship games! Please note attendance requirements and procedures. Tickets are required for the semifinals, per Section XI. Details are below.

The boys’ varsity basketball team defeated Sachem East in their quarterfinal matchup 58-46 to punch their ticket back to the final four! The No. 1 Colonials will now host No. 4 Walt Whitman on Friday, February 27 at 4:45 pm in the high school west gym. The Colonials faced off twice against Walt Whitman this season, winning both contests 56-49 and 61-57, respectively. The winner advances to the Suffolk County AAA Large School Championship Game on Saturday, March 7 at Stony Brook University.

Please note that Section XI charges an admission fee for the playoffs - $9.40 per ticket ($8 plus $1.40 admission fee). Please follow this link or scan the QR code to purchase. Section XI will not be accepting cash or check. Children 12 and under are free but must be accompanied by an adult.

The girls’ varsity basketball team knocked off Huntington in a quarterfinal matchup to advance to the final four! The No. 2 Colonials will now host No. 3 Ward Melville on Saturday, February 28 at 12 pm in the William Floyd High School west gym. The Colonials battled Ward Melville once this season and came out on top by a score of 49-47. The winner advances to the Suffolk County AAA Large School Championship Game on Friday, March 6 at Stony Brook University.
