The William Floyd Board of Education recently held its annual reorganization meeting for the 2025-26 school year, in which newly re-elected trustees April Coppola, Lorraine Mentz and Luis J. Soto took the oath of office for the start of their new three-year terms.  

The Board of Education also appointed the slate of officers for the 2025-26 school year, they are as follows: April Coppola, President, Board of Education; Robert Taiani, Vice President, Board of Education; Kevin Coster, Superintendent of Schools; Carolyn Visintin, District Clerk; Michelle Romanosky, District Treasurer; and Mary Sidaras, Deputy District Treasurer.

This year’s reorganization meeting also featured the appointment of the district’s inaugural group of student Board of Education members. The addition of student board members is in accordance with a new law requiring all school districts operating a high school to have at least one high school student serve as a non-voting member of their boards of education. The addition of student board members aims to provide school boards with a student-based perspective when discussing key issues while also giving students the opportunity to develop skills in leadership and civil engagement. The Board of Education appointed three rising seniors to the Board of Education as its first student members: Nasyah Crosby, Muhammad Saad and Andrew Winter.

Additionally, the Board of Education adopted its meeting dates for the 2025-2026 academic year. All meetings will be held in the William Floyd High School Jeananne Dawson Memorial Library, 240 Mastic Beach Road, Mastic Beach, with public session beginning at 7 pm (unless otherwise noted).

Board of Education meeting dates for the 2025-26 school year include: August 26 (6 pm public session); September 16; October 7 & 28; November 18; December 16; January 13; February 10 (Budget Advisory meeting at 6:30 pm/BOE meeting at 7 pm); March 10 & 24 (Budget Advisory meeting at 6:30 pm/BOE meeting at 7 pm); April 21 (Budget Advisory meeting at 6:30 pm/BOE meeting at 7 pm); May 12 (Budget Advisory meeting at 6:30 pm/BOE meeting at 7 pm); and June 16. The annual Budget Vote and Trustee Election will be held on May 19, 2026.
