The No. 6 Colonials lost in the semifinals to No. 2 Westhampton, 5-2, with Anabel and Lydia Van Cott winning first doubles (6-3, 6-4) and Gianna Martian and Tatiana Sanchez winning second doubles (6-4, 6-3). The Colonials had a fantastic season and another long playoff run. Congratulations to Coach Pia and all the student-athletes!


Update: October 22, 2025
The William Floyd Colonials girls’ varsity tennis team, under the leadership of head coach Dave Pia, has advanced to the final four in the Section XI team playoffs! On Wednesday, October 22, the No. 6 Colonials traveled to No. 3 Commack and defeated the Cougars on their home turf in a close match 4-3.

The Colonials swept all four doubles points to win the match. Anabel Van Cott and Lydia Van Cott won first doubles (6-0, 6-2); Rylie Wiegand and Corinne Neidig won third doubles (6-0, 6-2); and Khloe DiMaio and Ava Asendorf won fourth doubles (6-2, 6-2).

Tied at 3-3, the match came down to second doubles with Gianna Martin and Tatiana Sanchez overcoming a one-set deficit to take the victory (5-7, 6-2, 6-4)!

This is the 11th time in the past 14 years that the Colonials have advanced to the final four. They will battle the winner of the Westhampton/Ward Melville match on Friday, October 24 at 2 pm. Location to be determined.

Update: October 17, 2025
Congratulations to the No. 6 William Floyd girls’ varsity tennis team on their second-round playoff victory over No. 11 Half Hollow Hills West on Friday afternoon, October 17! With this victory, the Colonials have advanced to the quarterfinals in the county tournament! They will travel to No. 3 Commack on Wednesday, October 22, in an effort to keep this amazing season going. 

In the second round playoff match, the Colonials led by head coach Dave Pia, defeated Half Hollow Hills 5-2. Lydia Van Cott dominated first singles 6-1, 6-0, and, Khloe DiMaio won second singles 7-5, 6-1. In doubles, Gianna Martin and Tatiana Sanchez led the way with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in first doubles; Anabel Van Cott and Rylie Wiegand won second doubles 6-2, 6-1; and the third doubles team of Corrine Neidig and Ava Asendorf won 6-7, 6-3, 7-4 (tiebreaker). 

Congratulations to the Colonials on today's win and good luck next week against Commack!

The Colonials' opening playoff match originally scheduled for October 16 has been moved to Friday, October 17 at 2 pm. 


The William Floyd Colonials girls’ varsity tennis team, under the leadership of two-time USTA Coach of the Year and William Floyd Athletic Hall of Fame coach Dave Pia, recently concluded another great regular season which saw them qualify for the playoffs for the 23rd consecutive season! Coach Pia’s team finished the regular season with a 13-3 record, a No. 6 seed and a first-round playoff bye. The Colonials will host No. 11 Half Hollow Hills West on Thursday, October 16 at 2 pm.

Coach Pia recounted the season attributing their success to outstanding singles and doubles play by the Colonials. Junior Lydia Van Cott led the way with outstanding singles play and big match wins throughout the season. Junior Gianna Martin anchored the doubles play with outstanding net play that led to big wins all season.

Senior Corrine Neidig and sophomore Rylie Wiegand were undefeated at 2nd doubles. Standout play by junior Tatiana Sanchez and sophomore Khloe DiMaio were instrumental to the success of the team.

First-year varsity players freshman Ava Asendorf, junior Karin Da Gama Paes, junior Katelynn DeLuca, junior Genesis Canas, junior Alexandra Dorost, sophomore Emma Drees, sophomore Emma Hodgson and freshman Gabriella Montalbano all contributed to the Colonials’ success. Anabel Van Cott, one of the team’s most successful and experienced players, returned after an injury for the last two matches and contributed with wins.

Lydia Van Cott, Gianna Martin and Anabel Van Cott, received All-County honors; and Tatiana Sanchez, Corinne Neidig, Rylie Wiegand and Khloe DiMaio received All-Division honors.
