This is the third in a series of preview stories for our fall varsity sports teams!

The William Floyd girls’ varsity volleyball team, led by head coach Matthew Van Horne, has been working to make key improvements as a team. The Colonials are coming off a 2024 season in which they played their hardest but ultimately fell short of their yearly goal to make the playoffs. That has provided the student-athletes with some extra motivation ahead of the 2025 season. They attended numerous offseason training sessions and camps in an effort to prepare themselves for a big playoff push this year. 

The Colonials are anchored by returning senior and 2024 All-Classification honoree Claira Parente, who serves as the team’s co-captain and the team's libero. Returning senior and outside hitter Helen Lin also serves as a team co-captain. Additionally, Coach Van Horne highlighted senior middle blocker Kamiyah Rose, junior defensive specialist Jessica Sambriski and junior setter London Barnes as impact players on this year’s team.

The Colonials began their season on Wednesday, September 3 in a road win against Brentwood and will host their home opener on Friday, September 12 against Riverhead.
