student-athlete swimming a backstroke

WFHS sophomore Rhiannon Smith does the backstroke in a competition during last season.

This is the first of a series of series of preview stories for our fall varsity sports teams!

The William Floyd girls’ varsity swimming team, led by head coach Taylor Connor, is excited for a great 2025 season! The Colonials boast a strong roster that's bolstered with experienced student-athletes from last year’s team and several new student-athletes who have a good background in swimming. Additionally, the Colonials are excited to welcome several student-athletes from the Center Moriches School District onto the team this year.

As the season nears, Coach Connor is focused on preparing her team for maximum success across their schedule of meets.

“My goal this season is to bring on a competitive edge at our meets and get the girls pumped up to race the other teams and get some personal records and wins,” said Coach Connor.

While discussing her team, Coach Connor also highlighted a strong relay that’s been forming between seniors Kya Cuevas, Joslyn Lawrence, Reese Winter and Center Moriches swimmer Keira Sckipp.

The Colonials begin their season on Thursday, September 4 at 5 pm in a home matchup at the Brookhaven Aquatic Center against Sayville/Blue Point.

Best of luck to all of the student-athletes and their coaches as they exemplify what it means to be "Floyd Strong!"
