Gil DeCicco’s impact as a coach spanned more than three decades of positively influencing William Floyd student-athletes. Highlighted by his success as the varsity football team’s defensive coordinator from 1995-2014 and 2019, Gil inspired many Colonial student-athletes with his mentorship over the years. During his tenure as the team’s defensive coordinator, the Colonials won five Long Island championships and 12 Suffolk County championships while giving up the fewest points in Suffolk County Division I an astonishing 10 times. He was also part of the coaching staff overseeing the team that won three consecutive championships (2005-2007), was nationally recognized as a top 25 team in the nation by Sports Illustrated (2007) and won a then Long Island record 42 consecutive games.

During his tenure, he also coached three Collotta Award winners - Casey Terruso (2006), Dashawn Morton (2013) and Michael Bradley (2016) – an award given to the best linebacker in Suffolk County. He also served as the receivers and defensive backs coach (1995-1999), the linebackers coach (2000-2014/2016-2019) and the football weight training coordinator (1995-2019).

In 2018, he coached the girls’ varsity 4x200-meter relay team to a New York State Championship.

As an educator, Gil served as a physical education teacher from 1985 through 2018, beginning his career at William Paca Middle School (1985-1987), and then serving the students and families of William Floyd Elementary School (1987-1988), Moriches Elementary School (1988-1996) and William Floyd High School (1996-2018), where he served as the lead teacher for Project Adventure.
