Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI), Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (NJROTC) (Eastern Suffolk BOCES)
SNSI for the award-winning William Floyd High School NJROTC program through Eastern Suffolk BOCES.
Assignment: William Floyd High School
Qualifications: Must be a retired officer from a component of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard with certification from the Department of the Navy to serve as a Naval Science Instructor. The Navy may offer waivers for those who do not meet the above requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Directing the NJROTC Program and advising school authorities on program needs and requirements
- Teaching the prescribed three-year and four-year Naval Science curriculum
- Instructing students in military drill
- Counseling and mentoring students who participate in the program
- Ordering authorized government furnished equipment
- Arranging for cleaning and tailoring of cadet uniforms
- Maintaining program financial accounts and operating budget
- Demonstrating commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment

MINIMUM SALARY: $110,000* (*Final rate is determined by retirement rank)

Custodial/Facility Positions (4+)
Auto Mechanic III
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 am to 4 pm
Starting Salary: $55,000
Duties:
Repair district-wide vehicles including: trucks, cars, tractors, lawn mowers, snow blowers and other engine driven equipment;
Diagnosis problems, determine repairs needed and specs/orders required parts and equipment to make repairs;
In charge of preventative maintenance schedules for district-wide vehicles and auxiliary equipment;
Actively maintains preventative maintenance follow up and repairs for all vehicles;
Prepares all vehicles, where applicable, for annual state inspection;
Rebuilds engines and/or transmissions as needed;
Actively pursues training to keep all equipment repairs properly implemented and to manufactures specifications;
Able to repair hydraulic, electrical and braking systems along with both electrical and pneumatic controls;
Responds to off-site vehicle repairs and towing if needed;
Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of all materials, tools and equipment utilized in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and auxiliary equipment;
Proper certificates where applicable;
Knowledge of EPA and DEC disposal protocols;
Ability to understand technical manuals and diagnostic equipment to facilitate repairs;
Knowledge of repairing both gas- and diesel-powered engines;
Ability to follow through to completion and communicate effectively with both supervisors and colleagues;
Minimum qualifications (Either)
(a) Completion of two (2) years of vocational education courses in either a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in automotive mechanics and two (2) years of work experience in the repair and rebuilding of mechanical systems and components of automotive equipment; or;
(b) Four (4) years of experience in the repair and rebuilding of mechanical systems and components of automotive equipment; or
(c) Satisfactory equivalent combination of the above education and experience; or,
(d) Two (2) years of experience as an Automotive Mechanic II.
Necessary Special Requirements
Possession of the appropriate license issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. The type of license required will be determined by the appointing authority with respect to the type of vehicle to be operated; license must be maintained throughout employment in this title. Depending on nature of assignment, possession and maintenance of a New York State Motor Vehicle Inspection License may be required during employment in this title.

Power Plant Operator I
Job Description: This position involves the performance of all mechanical and operation tasks in the maintenance, repair and operation of a diesel or electric power plant at an apprentice level, and is expected to perform the skilled and mechanical work necessary to maintain and ensure operation of the power plant. Employee is responsible for maintaining the plant in a clean and orderly condition as well as assisting in overhauling large diesel or electric generator units as well as power plant auxiliary equipment. They are expected to perform routine mechanical tasks using hand and power tools. Employees should exhibit ability to think and act quickly in an emergency situation. Does related work as required.
FACILITIES DEPARTMENT – 12-month position / Annual Salary $57,000
- Operates one or more units in a large diesel powered or electric generating plant, when necessary.
- Does preventive maintenance on power plant auxiliary equipment.
- Maintains plant in a clean and orderly condition.
- Assists in the overhaul of the large natural gas units or electric generator machinery.
- Assists in the maintenance, overhaul or replacement of all auxiliary equipment.
- Assists in the inspection and maintenance of plant instruments.
- Performs routine mechanical tasks using hand and some power tools.
- Reads electric, gas and water meters; may maintain daily records of readings.
- May do routine service on automotive equipment.
- May assist other departments in their work when required.
Hours: Monday – Friday: 2 pm to 10 pm; Weekend & On-call Emergency availability; hours may vary; overtime is a normal occurrence during certain periods of the year.
Experience: One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of mechanical equipment such as gas engines, diesel engines or electric generating equipment.
Essential knowledge, skills and abilities: Working knowledge of the construction and operation of large diesel or electric generating engines; working knowledge of electric generators and the auxiliary equipment associated with such engines and equipment; working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for this operation; good knowledge in the use of hand and power tools; skill in operating diesel engines, electric generators, auxiliary equipment and hand and power tools; basic understanding of electricity; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations.
