A sister and brother learning at home

Elementary Distance Learning

The new elementary school distance learning plan allows students to continue learning and remain in daily contact with their educators. Your teachers will be reaching out prior to the start of school to introduce themselves and ensure you know how to access Google Classroom. There will also be one period each day for students to work directly with their teachers. Please don’t fret if you cannot check in each day during the live daily session. It will not be counted against attendance as long as assignments are completed. If you have any extenuating circumstances, please stay in close contact with your child’s teacher.

Distance learning is still new for all of us. This is a change in how our teachers teach, and how our students learn. Please be patient, as our teachers are using technology that is new to them, and they balance working with their students that they see in person twice a week, along with students who are fully virtual. As school starts and our educators become more comfortable with the scheduling and technology, what your children will see on the website will also change and improve. Please allow your teachers a few weeks to get better acquainted with the tools and this new schedule.

Aside from our teachers, we also know this is a continued adjustment for our families, so we want to minimize any additional burdens our families may be dealing with, and offer the following suggestions:

  • The circumstances of each of our families is different, so there is no one-size-fits-all approach. If students cannot log in at the assigned time given by their teacher, but can do the work later in the day, that is absolutely acceptable. We encourage you to do what works best for your family.
  • Allow your child(ren) appropriate breaks as necessary. It’s okay if they need to pause an assignment and come back to it later.
  • If students are having difficulty with an assignment, please reach out to their teacher.

Please remember, we are all in this together. Your administrators, teachers, teaching assistants and the entire school community is here for you. Together we will get through these trying times and we'll be stronger as a result.
