Caitlyn Fioto, a William Floyd High School student in Michael Devenney’s 11th-grade English class, recently used persuasive writing to secure tickets to a New York Islanders game! Caitlyn and her classmates were participating in a letter-writing campaign titled, “The Power of Persuasion,” in which students write letters to famous and influential people who have impacted them personally, and use their writing skills to convince the recipient to send back a small token or something to cherish and motivate them as writers.

Victoria Hernandez, a sixth-grade general education and ENL science teacher at William Floyd Middle School, as well as a NYS Master Teacher, is currently a finalist in Teachers Federal Credit Union “Teacher Appreciation Week Contest!” Ms. Hernandez has the opportunity to win a grant up to $2,500 for her classroom, which will be used to build an interactive vertical garden using coding and technology ! Voting in this final round ends Friday, April 26.
