On Thursday April 15th, William Floyd Elementary School held its 2nd annual Wellness Fair. Students and their families were invited to attend this free event. They learned how to live a healthy lifestyle by visiting computer sites and community representatives. They sampled healthy snacks and learned how to prepare them too. Everyone got their bodies moving by visiting the Healthy Heart set up in our gym and dancing in our library. Everyone took home crafts, information about staying healthy, and prizes!
In addition to our building staff we will had representatives from the following organizations:
• Brookhaven Memorial Hospital shared information about health, nutrition and wellness.
• Operation Safe Child was available to create Safe Child cards. These cards can be held by parents and used to provide vital information if an emergency occurs.
• Cornell Cooperative Extension demonstrated how to prepare inexpensive and healthy meals.
• BOCES Anti-Smoking Coalition gave students information about the dangers of smoking and provided information about smoking cessation programs to adults.
• Family Counseling Service and Child Health Plus provide information and support to families.
Together our school and community created a fun and exciting evening for our students and their families.
