William Floyd Elementary School recently hosted its second annual Math Slam, a mathematics-based competition for third through fifth graders that tests students’ critical thinking and math skills. Students in all three grade levels participated in a prequalifying round in their classrooms with the four highest scoring students from each class moving on to represent their class in the Math Slam.
“Each grade level competition was exciting,” said Jenna Haskins, William Floyd Elementary School third-grade teacher who organized the competition. “Kudos to all the teams for their effort and accomplishments in gaining entry to the competition and for their hard work and enthusiasm. Students were excited, motivated and enjoyed participating in this math competition.”
The winning classes were Kimberly Mina’s third-grade team; ToniMarie Lane’s fourth-grade team; and Shari Fanning’s fifth-grade team. Congratulations on a great competition!
