The William Floyd Colonials varsity baseball team is heading to the playoffs! The Colonials clinched their spot in this year’s Section XI AA playoff bracket on the heels of a 13-win regular season (12-6 League), placing them fourth in League I and earning them a No. 11 seed. They will travel to No. 6 Sachem East for their first round playoff matchup on Monday, May 20 at 4 pm. The Colonials won their season series against Sachem East, defeating them in two out of three games.
“All season, our team has had the approach of one game at a time. They have done a great job at working together and playing as a team,” said head coach Keith Kobasiuk. “All of our players have had specific roles on this team, and they have been able to perform in those roles on a daily basis. Every day, it seems that another player comes up with a big hit or play.”
Despite the added intensity and pressure that comes with a playoff game, Coach Kobasiuk is not going to change his team’s approach that has paid dividends all season long. “We want to continue with our approach of one game at a time. In a double elimination tournament, that’s all you can really worry about. We have to take each game at a time,” said Coach Kobasiuk.
Congratulations to Coach Kobasiuk, his coaching staff and the student-athletes on a tremendous season and best of luck in the playoffs! Go Colonials!
