Moriches Elementary recently held their annual Science Fair among approximately 300 students in first through fifth-grade who were competing for a chance to participate in the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) Science Fair on Saturday, May 5. Students were able to create a project in one of three categories – Expedition, Discovery and Curator.
Congratulations to the following students who were selected as the overall winners for their grade level:
1st grade: Riley Meyer – Saving Water, Teacher: Wendy Kadletz
2nd grade: Julianna Weiss – Water Drainage Speed Test, Teacher: Kellie Megna
3rd grade: Avery Barraud – Making Electricity, Teacher: Jacqueline Sciacca
4th grade: James Start Schwartz – Mom’s Sea Monkeys…They Do Exist, Teacher: Allison Conklin and Leah Olivo
4th grade: Evan Schoefer (Honorable Mention) – What Notes do a Violin & Guitar React To, Teacher: Kate Johnson
5th grade: Henry Bogash – Thinking Twice Before Adding Ice, Teacher: Kimberly Scala
5th grade: Elena Pirro (Honorable Mention) – Sweet Beans, Teacher: Desmond Megna
Each year, the BNL Science Fair attracts more than 500 projects from Suffolk elementary school students for this contest with one student from each grade level winning a medal and a banner to be hung in their school for their entire school to see.
