Jonathan Germer, a fifth-grade teacher at Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School, recently held the school’s first etiquette club, an after-school program for third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students to learn about proper etiquette in professional settings. The four sessions covered topics such as conversational norms, writing thank you notes, learning to tie neckties, as well as working on signing their names in cursive. Additionally, each Tuesday, students came to school dressed in a collared shirt and tie.
“Working with these young men was an absolute pleasure,” said Mr. Germer. “It is great seeing the boys using their new skills each day in the hallways and classrooms here at school.” Due to the club’s success and popularity, Mr. Germer hopes to expand the curriculum and open the enrollment to more students in the future.
