Newsday recently released their “Top 100 Players” for the spring sports season in various sports and the Colonials are well-represented as four student athletes made their respective lists.
Baseball (Head Coach Keith Kobasiuk)
Nick Lomonaco – Outfield – Junior
– Speedy centerfielder that batted .374 as a sophomore.
AJ Verga – First Base/Pitcher – Junior
– He was 3-2 with a 2.12 ERA in Suffolk I as a sophomore.
Boys Lacrosse (Head Coach Desmond Megna)
Andrew Brust – Goalie – Senior
– Had impressive 68 percent save rate last season. Will play at St. Joseph’s (LI).
Softball (Head Coach Fred Luhrs)
– Jayna Rios – Shortstop – Senior
The five-year varsity member has the ability to drive the ball to all fields with incredible power, hitting 11 home runs last season. She was also named a “Player to Watch” for Suffolk County.

For aspiring student-athletes currently enrolled in elementary or middle school: Nick Lomonaco attended Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School and William Paca Middle School; Jayna Rios attended John S. Hobart Elementary School and William Paca Middle School; Andrew Brust attended William Floyd Elementary School and William Floyd Middle School; and AJ Verga began attending the district in William Floyd High School.
