On Friday, April 21, 2017, the William Floyd School District and the William Floyd Alumni Association will celebrate the ninth annual Distinguished Alumni Day, a special event honoring five graduates who have and continue to be a positive influence in society. This year’s honorees have made their marks in the fields of business, technology, education, athletics and government. They join 39 other honorees before them who have made great contributions to society in their chosen career paths and whose plaques now adorn the Distinguished Alumni wall at William Floyd High School.
This year’s recipients include Anthony Liberti, business/community service, Class of 1962; John Del Vecchio, business/athletics, Class of 1986; Marybeth Hoffman, Class of 1991, government/psychology; Melissa Faulkner, Class of 1995, education/community service; and James Gibbs, Class of 1995, technology/business.
The honorees will visit William Floyd High School for an in-school portion where they will have an opportunity to interact with students whose interests correlate to their occupation. Distinguished alumni will also have an opportunity to visit the Rita Rech Museum of William Floyd School District History and enjoy a fully-catered lunch by the culinary arts students under the direction of world champion ice carver, Rich Daly.
“We are proud to welcome these five amazing individuals back to William Floyd as Distinguished Alumni,” said Kevin M. Coster, Superintendent of Schools, William Floyd School District. “Their personal stories of hard work and determination – all beginning at William Floyd – should serve to inspire our students in all that they set out to do in their lives.”
“This year’s honorees have proven to be tremendous citizens, role models and contributors to society,” said Jackie Intonato Eglevsky, President, William Floyd Alumni Association, and a 2014 Distinguished Alumna. “Their example shows that William Floyd students have the potential to achieve whatever it is they set their minds to.”
Past honorees hail from various aspects of society including, business, government, medicine, the sciences, entertainment, literature, the arts, athletics, music, culinary arts, emergency services, philanthropy, education, public and community service and more.
