Advanced Art students from Theresa Bianco’s classes at William Floyd High School recently attended “National Portfolio Day” at the Jacob K. Javits center in New York City where they had the opportunity to have accredited art, design and film schools evaluate their portfolios and meet one-on-one with admissions counselors from various schools including the Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons, the Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts. During these meetings, students explained their artwork, as well as the visual and technical choices within their work. They were also provided suggestions for career choices, prospective majors and how to improve upon their portfolio pieces.
“The experience provided many opportunities to have the ‘portfolio section’ of the application process for the students already accomplished,” said Mrs. Bianco. “Any student who is considering a career in these types of creative fields must create a portfolio, and the ‘Portfolio Preparation & Advanced Art’ courses aligned with these opportunities are a great way to get them ready.”
