Tangier Smith Elementary School held their annual Veterans Day concert to honor local veterans. The event, led by kindergarten teacher Wendy Gross, features kindergarten- and first-grade students clad in red, white and blue, singing patriotic songs to veterans and current service members from the community. Several students had the privilege of introducing their mom, dad or grandfather who served in the military; while other students held up pictures of their relatives who served. Local military personnel from the 106th Rescue Wing of the Air National Guard presented a flag flown over Afghanistan sent by Patrick Gross, Mrs. Gross’s nephew and son of Board of Education Trustee Thomas Gross, who is currently serving in the United States Navy. Legislator Kate M. Browning also attended to thank the veterans personally.
