Update: The Colonials played their hearts out in the Long Island Championship on Friday, November 25 at Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium game but fell a little short to Freeport 28-14. They left it all out on the field and can walk away holding their heads high. Congratulations to the entire team on a great season which included the varsity football program’s 10th Suffolk County Championship!
Congratulations to the William Floyd Colonials for winning the Suffolk County Championship on Friday, November 18, before a crowd of 4,200+ at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on the campus of Stony Brook University. The Colonials, behind a stellar team effort, defeated the Ward Melville Patriots 28-21, to capture the 10th Suffolk County football title in the program’s history. Nick Silva (3 TDs) and James Taitt (1 TD) accounted for the scoring behind a bruising offensive line and great defense including a huge goal-line stand heading into the half with the score tied at 14. They will now seek their 6th Long Island Class I Championship as they battle Freeport at Hofstra University on Friday, November 25 at noon. The Colonials’ 10 Suffolk County Championships occurred in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016. Past Long Island Championships include 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2012.
