The New York State School Boards Association recognizes October 24-28 as School Board Recognition Week, a time to promote awareness and understanding of the important work performed by school board members from across the state. The William Floyd Board of Education, a body of seven elected and volunteer community members, is deeply committed to the students and residents of the William Floyd School District. Board of Education members include Robert Vecchio, Jeananne Dawson, April Coppola, Thomas Gross, Robert Guerriero, Anthony Speruta and Robert Taiani.
“These seven individuals serving on the Board of Education devote countless hours to make sure that our district is operating at a very high level,” said Kevin M. Coster, Superintendent of Schools, William Floyd School District. “They spend numerous hours studying education issues and regulations; are tasked with making the tough decisions on programming, developing a budget that meets the needs of our students as well as being sensitive to the needs of the community and so much more…and they do all of this as volunteers. On behalf of the William Floyd School District, I would like to thank each and every one of them for their service to the district and community. We could not do what we do without them.”
As a show of gratitude for their service, students from the William Floyd High School Hospitality Services Academy Culinary Arts program prepared a gourmet meal for the Board trustees prior to the October 25 Board of Education meeting. The meal, prepared by seniors and served by juniors, consisted of pasta primavera, chicken parmigiana and tossed salad. Mr. Coster also presented the Board of Education with a framed photo mosaic consisting of images of students participating in various activities throughout the district.
